central illinois. group of 10, we go somewhere every year but this is our 1st time going to big g. how bout you?
The first 5 or 6 miles below Guntersville Dam on Wheeler Lake has some great catfishing. The former world record blue catfish came from Wheeler and I suspect the new record is swimming in there now. Jugs are very effective there and perfectly legal. I caught several hundred pounds of catfish there last year using jugs in a couple of weeks. Every day I fished for them I completely filled my livewell with catfish in under 4 hours.

oops dont know what happened there. thanks shad lips thats what i needed to know. do i have to trailer my boat to go from big g to wheeler or can i drive my boat from one to the other? thanks again.

Just remember that commercial traffic has the right of way, so you might have to wait a while to lock through. A cast net will get you plenty of shad in the tailraces below the dam. Cut bait always works best for me when catfishing.
