What is the best way to catch stripers and catfish during october? I will be fishing between the big dam(alatoona) and the Thompson-Weinman dam. Thanks.

Best bet is below the Thompson-Weinman dam. Stripers can only go to Thompson-Weinman during their spawn in the Spring, making that a hot spot! By October, most stripers have gone back to Lake Weiss through the Coosa River System. The season for below Thompson-Weinman is the end of April through October. Fresh cut shad or live brim work great. Also, large bucktails and top water red-fins will do the trick. There has been fish reported in the 30 lbs class range, so bring heavy gear. Avg. fish are between 4 to 8 lbs. Above the dam, you may catch an ocasional stripe, but not many. However, catfish are sure to be in there. Look for deep cuts around alot of submerged logs. Use live bait. Have patients and maybe you will catch a big flat-head.
Tight lines and screaming drags!
