    Turkey Hunting

It is illegal to use a .22 rifle to hunt turkey? My cousin used one last year and he said, why hurt your arm and miss the turkey when you can shoot it with a little .22 and kill it dead with a lot less kick? If it's not illegal, that will be my gun of choice this year. I haven't looked into it, but my cousin says the ammo is cheaper for .22 as opposed to 12ga turkey magnums? Is this true? Thanks, first time hunter.

I do believe that you CAN NOT use a .22 caliber to turkey hunt. Only squirel hunting, but Im not for sure. Call ky dept. of fish and wildlife to see and then let me know.

Kentucky. You must use a shotgun. You don't have to have the high dollar turkey loads.....you can drop a turkey with a high brass 2 3/4" shell if you are patient enough to let him get into proper range.

You cannot use a solid lead projectile to take turkey. Also you may not use shot any larger than number fours.

Well, I must agree that a .22 is a fine choice of firearm for taking of turkey. I believe I will upgrade to a .22 magnum though because these .22 shorts aren't cutting it on those turkey like they do on deer. It seems the turkey are more energetic and strut around damaged when hit with a short. Personally I have no problem taking any kind of game with a close range .22 head shot. Maybe it's just me though.

I'd have to agree, but the guys on here say you can't use them?? Oh me. I wish I would have asked before I went deer hunting this year too. It seems a .22 to the brain of a deer works fine. I am finding that most of the activities I have been involved with in the last year have been illegal some extent. I am going to change. First I'll stop using fresh crappie for grennel bait, that's a good place to start.
