    What's it worth??

I just got a very sweet Winchester 30-30 from a family member. The rifle is about 25 years old, never shot... like new, kept in a gun case.

If I were to sell it, and I won't for sentimental reasons, but for insurance purposes I should know, what would the gun sell for?

Thanks to anyone that can help.

    Tight lines and God Bless

    Hey Danny:
While I have no idea about the worth of your gun I would like to recommend that you take some pictures of the gun for insurance purposes. With the new digital camera being out these days you can get a picure of all your valuables and have the digial photos stored off site somewhere in case of a fire or disaster wipe out your home. These pictures will help you recover the losses with your homeowners insurance company. You may already have these pictures and that's great. Like the old saying goes "A picture is worth a thousand words". Good luck in finding out the value of your gun.

Danny I have a Winchester 30-30 that belonged to my dad, my mom bought it for him around 1972. She paid I believe about $150.00 for it, so it should be worth about $ 300.00 or more by now... Hope this helps

    Thanks guys.

I have another gun that I am hesitant to say what it is, but it is an original and worth in the thousands.

Moose, you are right about the pictures. We've done that in the past, but for some reason, I have gotten out of that habit. Thanks very much for the reminder, I need to begin doing that again.

I also have come into a 30.06 single shot bolt action about the same age.

BTW, did I say I love shooting guns?? One of my passions is really target shooting. It's great fun.

    Danny,

You need an EXACT age on that gun. Here's why:

Winchester was an American owned/produced gun up until 1964. In 1964, Winchester was bought by some Japanese. ANY Winchester made before 1964 is probably worth double than a post 1964 Winchester. In some cases, they're worth umpteen thousands of dollars depending on the model and the caliber.

If you want, e-mail me the serial number and I'll see if I can track it down for you. I can also give you a value on the other gun you're talking about as well.

    my e-mail address is jeff.kratzwald@remington.com

    Take care my friend.
