Just wondering if anyone has tried casting a float-n-fly jig with out the float? I have found that they often hit the fly on the drop so why not try to cast it without the float? Also has anyone tried working it in very deep water such as finding a school of fish at 30-40 ft and droping the fly down to that level instead of say a spoon. Just wondering about any different ways that some of you have found to work the fly. I have been hearing of several different ways that are working instead of the traditional way. Love to hear your ideas to try next winter. Thanks.

i havent ran it with no float but have found fish suspended in deeper water on cumberland and will adjust the length of the leader also the trialers that they make or make your own i think are key
What you do is drop the fly beside the boat and count how long it takes for it to sink until you lines tight. If you use to fishing a 10FT leader then guesstimate 10ft line. Drop it out of the boat and count.
Cast the fly to the bank and count down the same numeber. Once you get close the depth you think, you'll have to try and swim it back to you. Now you still slightly shake you rod as you retrieveing and give a "crankbait sweep" hookset.
This technique is a good one. I know of some really nice fish that have been caught on Laurel, Cumberland, and Dale.
Ole Elnut and I now one guy personally that does it on occasion at Dale.
