    Lowerance x65 problems

I have one on the trolling motor. A decent fishfinder but it gives really wierd readings in shALLow water. Anything less than 4ft and it starts flashing and won't work for a few minutes. Then last nite it started going off periodically like I had turned it off. I could push every button and nothing . Then about an hour later it justcame back on like nothing happened. I checked all the wiring and connections. I didn't know if anybody had any suggestions? Thanks

    RE: Lowerance x65 problems

I have power at the cord that plugs in to the unit. So I guess the unit is bad. Does anybody know who works on these or how much it would cost to get lowerance to fix it?

I have two of them, both do the same thing. Save your money on repair, buy a new unit.

Are they really that bad? I have never had any lowerance products. always Hummingbird. Has anyone else had any experience with them?

    cman,
I don't own an x65, but a 330c and a 332c. I have returned the 330c twice and now the 332c is at Lowrance still under warranty. I have had the same problem with the units turning on by themselves and flashing erraticly. At the very least, this is a major inconvenience. If I knew for sure that Eagle was less problematic, I would switch manufacturers. Best of luck!

Thanks for the tips. I have a 350gps combo that I love so far. As for the x65 I think I will switch it out with the hummingbird300tx on my old boat. I know it works great. It doesn't seem to help me catch more fish but man it looks cool. LOL

I have one that does the exact same thing. Mine will also cut out in deeper water when I run the trolling motor. Thanks for the post, I thought I just had a bad unit, it appears there may be more out there with this model. I had an Eagle on my old boat that worked far better.

    RE: Lowerance x65 problems

Eagle is made by Lowrance, I've have both and did recently send a X135 Lowrance back to them and they sent me a new one that works great. However after reading all of this, I guess they are having some problems. I need to reconsider buying the 337 gps Lowrance I had planned on buying.

Anybody know much about Garmin fishfinders with gps?

    Found the problem

I found the problem on my x65. The 3 amp fuse holder is bad. Its spring loaded so as the spring wears out it doesn't make contact as well. I replaced it and it works great. Maybe you all should check this too. Its a red fuse holder on the power cable. Hope this helps.

    Lowrance is Junk!!

I have a X-85 and i have sent it back three times 100.00 each time i sent it! You would turn it on and then it would just go off like you pulled a fuse. Bought a Garmin 240 and have had it 3 years with zero problems! I would buy garmin next time!!!!

Double checked the model this weekend, it is an x-85, but nonetheless has the same problem.

check your red fuse holder on the positive cable. these are very cheaply made and cause a bad connection. I replaced mine with a auto fuse link from NAPA($3 or $4 ) Now it works great
