Will be taking a trip to Cave Run this weekend with a couple of ten year olds. We are in search of slab crappie. If anyone has any advice, conditions, depths etc. please let me know.
I will be more than happy to post a fishing report when we return.
Thanks
I was just on Cave Run last weekend. The water is little over 5 ft above summer pool, however the water is still green and very clear in the main lake and slightly stained in the backs of the hollows. The temps averaged around 70 degrees. I don't know about the crappie because I mainly fished for bass, but I imagine you will find them in the mid point to the backs of the coves wherever there are trees. The pattern for the bass last weekend was, throw plastics in the treeline near the creeks with flowing water. The bass fishing was very slow, but we managed to catch 5. Crantbaits and spinner baits did not works, only plastics worked. We threw brown brush hogs, purple crawdads with chartruce pinchers and red worms with a black core and they all caught fish. Good luck and enjoy the scenery. Surprisingly some of the trees are already changing colors.
