Good ideas....I have ours tied to a line chalker, the line is about 1000lb test and can be reeled back in for storage...

No problem so far, the snap swivel (i think it's called that)i used is pretty big and once you open it up and attach it to the sinker that portion is locked away from the portion that snaps onto the line. I use 10-14lb excel for my cranking. Good luck to ya.

I looked it up and this is what i used. Duolock Snaps and 4-ounce Bass Casting Sinkers.

I use a baitcast with staging on it on a broken rod,just cut the rod off,i have a bait hound and the little dooey that the line runs through slippes right over the rod stump.

Then I made one for walleye baits out of 1 inch steel bar stock.
The chalkline works but is slow rewind.

If you're real cheap try old used sparkplugs, put the electrode over you're line and tap it closed. Send it down and jiggle etc. not 100% but it will work.

i have used a snap & a 1& 3/4 oz. bell sinker for years on every kind of bait & very seldom lose a bait . try it you will like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a plug knocker that has a wire frame around the lead weight. And then it's got a long line that attaches to the plug knocker itself. You can attack the wire frame around the fishing line when one of the baits get hung up and then send the plug knocker down the fishing line to knock the treble hooks free from the stumps. We have been using plug knockers for over 40 years. Well since I was just 8 years old and fishing KY lake for lm bass. I saved a lot of balsa wood bombers from being lost to these old KY lake underwater stumps and snags.

Some guys make plug knockers out of used spark plugs.

When you have a line attached to the plug knocker you can pull it up and then let it slide back down the fishing line multiple times until you finally knock the bait free. My commercial plug knocker is very heavy and the heavy wire frame will actually hook onto the treble hooks and help you pull the bait free from the snags.

I have still lost a few plugs when the plug knocker fails to get the crank bait knocked loose but I have not lost very many baits.

I still like the idea of using a short fishing rod and reel to retrieve the line attached to the plug knocker. I think I could use some of the new braided fishing lines in heavy test to attach my plug knockers to the fishing reel. I like the idea of being able to reel the line back onto a fishing real. Right now I am using nylon braided lines and have to wind it up by hand when retrieving my plug knocker.

I'll have to agree with Pro V. The spark plug has always worke for me. And if I lose it ...it was abad one anyway and no extra lead in the water.

Alll heck just breakem off, ya probably need to restock anyway...ask any of the tackle sellers...that way you have new stuff and sharp hooks....

Years ago it didn't hurt as much but now as hard baits are 3,4 or 5 times more expensive it hurts my feelings to lose one :-(.
