Where is the best place to catch shad in Lake Cumberland? I know the guides catch them at the marinas but not sure if they will let an individual.
Rent a slip at the marina and put out your own light - that's what I do. you can usually rent an uncovered slip for $6 a night. DON'T throw in a guides light or anyone else's for that matter. depending on the time of year you can drop a submersible light over your boat in a creek - take a nap - throw the net. make the first throw count because that's when the school will be the thickest. If throwing from a dock turn off the light when your net hits the water and turn it back on right before you pull on the net. The theroy is the bait won't see the net sink on them and when you turn the light back on the bait will instintively swim up into the net. just because you don't see the bait in your light doesn't mean its not there either - many times during the year the bait will be 50+ ft deep so you'll have to experiment with tying extension ropes to your net. Good luck and be careful this time of year - wet docks turn real slick real quick.
