I don't personally fish for them but a bunch of guys I work with do and they all go to either Nolin or Rough. Seems like they spawn in late may or early June. they get some big ones on trot lines. hope that helps.

Barren and Nolin have a good population. I don't fish for them much but I'd put trotlines in the rivers and bait with big chubs or bluegill.
I caught one in Herrington last spring on a crankbait so there must be at least some in there.
There are flatheads in the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers, and most of the lakes in Kentucky. It has been my experience that the smaller cats are the best eating because the larger cats are too oily and strong to taste good, and the big cats should be released because it takes many years for a flathead to reach 35 to 45 pounds. Flatheads love bluegills. Two years ago I caught a 35 lb cat on a ten inch bluegill. Ususally flatheads like wood, holes behind humps and bowels in river channels.
