I am interested in helping out with this but I have a few questions.
Are the stakebeds and brushpiles going to be put in designated areas, or will it be left to those participating?
Also, is the KDFWR responsible for the current beds that are made from oaks slats? (Like the ones at Smith Ridge ramp, Site 1 ramp, Pikes Ridge ramp, etc) If so, was the KDFWR (and this event) responsible for the stakebeds that were put in Campers Cove at Pikes Ridge? I'm not sure if the Campers Cove beds are still there, but they were there last year during winter pool. I have yet to make it to that end of the lake while it's still at winter pool this year.
The reason I ask is that I feel they need to be moved, or at least shortened. The beds are deep in the cove, right out from the campsites in the channel. During the summer of '05 I watched a Boy Scout troop playing in canoes, overturning them for fun in this area. Also, I watched other children, being towed in on tubes, jump off in the same area. These beds were approximately 5' above water during winter pool, so they would be 2' underwater during summer pool. This is extremely dangerous for those that don't know where the beds are located.
As of now, I have a prior commitment on the day of this event, but I will try to rearrange my plans. If these beds are still there, I would volunteer myself to relocate these beds out to the mouth of the cove in deeper water where they would pose much less of a safety concern.
