Thumbs up Green River Volunteers needed

KDFWR in cooperation w/ GRL USACE & GRL State Park will be having a
fish attractor/habitat work day on March 10 @ Green River Lake
beginning @ 9 AM EST @ the Lone Valley ramp. Will be putting in
brushpiles & stakebeds. Will have materials (trees, stakes, blocks,
etc.) on site. Just need bodies to assist in placement (boat not
necessary to assist/participate as other boats will be available to
work out of). Can come & go as you please. Will be onsite at least
until 1 PM & out on the water until 3 PM.

    Thanks

    Re: Green River Volunteers needed

I am interested in helping out with this but I have a few questions.

Are the stakebeds and brushpiles going to be put in designated areas, or will it be left to those participating?

Also, is the KDFWR responsible for the current beds that are made from oaks slats? (Like the ones at Smith Ridge ramp, Site 1 ramp, Pikes Ridge ramp, etc) If so, was the KDFWR (and this event) responsible for the stakebeds that were put in Campers Cove at Pikes Ridge? I'm not sure if the Campers Cove beds are still there, but they were there last year during winter pool. I have yet to make it to that end of the lake while it's still at winter pool this year.

The reason I ask is that I feel they need to be moved, or at least shortened. The beds are deep in the cove, right out from the campsites in the channel. During the summer of '05 I watched a Boy Scout troop playing in canoes, overturning them for fun in this area. Also, I watched other children, being towed in on tubes, jump off in the same area. These beds were approximately 5' above water during winter pool, so they would be 2' underwater during summer pool. This is extremely dangerous for those that don't know where the beds are located.

As of now, I have a prior commitment on the day of this event, but I will try to rearrange my plans. If these beds are still there, I would volunteer myself to relocate these beds out to the mouth of the cove in deeper water where they would pose much less of a safety concern.

Whoop's, sorry Eric I just looked at my calender and I am going to be at the John Michael Montgumery Hunting and Fishing Expo in Bardstown on Saturday the 10th, working our raffle booth to raise money for out Kids Outdoor Day event at Green River Lake State Park June 2nd. I will spread the word to some of the guys around to see if they would be interested in helping out though.
If you can make sure you pencil us down for the fishing poles for that day, (June 2nd) we are expecting around 1000 kids this year.

    Thanks

    Re: Green River Volunteers needed

I have plenty of trees to donate.

I've donated some already this year, but anyone is welcome to come and get as many as they want.

I have a lot of smallish (5-8 ft) standing cedars on some property that I manage in western Hardin Co. I've been slowly burning and clearing the land, but there's still plenty left for anyone that wants to take them.

Feel free to contact me and you can have as many as you can haul away. It doesn't have to be for a specific KDFWR project. They're there for anyone that might have a need for them even if it's for your farm pond.
