Hummingbird has some really good values. They are making a comeback recently and I look for them to be a power in a few years, again.

Planetgps.net ..you can get just about any unit for about 100.00 below the same cost from the actual MFG....

example: 797 c2 SI Combo with Navionics pack - $ 1199.00 from MFG...

797c2 SI Combo with Navionics pack - $ 1045.95 from PlanetGPS

Check them out.... I am not trying to advertise for them, but giving some info as requested for a unit.....

Internal or External Antenna what's the best one to have. Any thoughts on the Eagle fish finders. There is a fish Elite that is a color GPS for 440.00

I have a Lowrance 332c which is basicly the same as a eagle. I have had no problems with it and it works great.

The External gets better reception than the internal ones but take up more room. .

It doesn't matter! I just learned that my 3 year old $1000.00 unit will no longer have new map chips made for it. The only way I can get one of these old chips is to find someone who has some old stock.
So buy cheap and hope it will last as long as the expensive one, either way it will not matter in 5 years!

I agree with Matt about www.Humminbird.com and their new depth finders.

In fact I am still using a Humminbird LCR 800 Which I purchased back in 1986. I use it along with my handheld GPS from Garmin to find my fishing spots. These two units together are all I need. But it would be really nice to have on of the new humminbird sidescanning sonar units. These are the bomb. Humminbird has taken the lead in the retail depth finders with these new units. In fact humminbird has had the best most advanced depth finders for a long time IMHO. They had three dimential depth finders for a while now.

As for as humminbirds service, I see it as very good. You can send in an old nonworking unit and get it fixed for a reasonable price and get a new refurbished unit back in no time at all.
