Is the tree still green or has it been in the water for a bit and just pulling it out a little more?

KDFWR does not normally use cedar or pine trees for fish attractors. We mostly use hardwood trees, such as oak and hickory. That is not to say cedar or pine can not be used. These softwood trees does not last as long as hardwood, and they take more weight to sink them. We use 12 inch concrete blocks to sink the trees. It normally takes 1 to 2 blocks per tree, if the trees are green.

    Hope this helps

when you sink a cedar put a block in the tip and 1 or 2 on the butt depending the size. The thing i learned at nolin and rough is to cut the bottom flat if you don't and you drop the on a sloping point when the current runs they will roll and pull the block making the hard to find when you fish, you almost have to put them in when the water is down so you can rock them down too.I have found too hard woods are better for sinking.
i have used pine and i don't think the fish like them near as well as cedar.
