    1978 Evinrude 115 prop?

Guys, been running an OMC '17 stainless prop for some time. I dont know anything about props, first off. The boat is a 17'10" 78 Cajun Mach V with a 115 Rude, same year. It has been garage kept its entire life and my granddad bought it new. Passed it to me when he died. Anyway, I wanted to know if there was any prop I could get that would give better peformance than the 17. Currently, I can get 45 mph or so at about 5400 rpms at full trim. There is no vibration or anything, it is a smooth ride.

Also, anyone have tips to keep the motor running well other than the basics? I run 87 octane fuel with quicksilver oil, change plugs and impeller once a year. Motor has been very solid.

    Re: 1978 Evinrude 115 prop?

    I have a 17' procraft fish'n'ski with the same 1978 115 Johnson.

    I have 3 props a 17" 19" and a 21"
    The 17 I also get 45mph gps.
For the smaller lakes in Indiana I use the 17 gets me up on plane quicker.
When we go down to Green River I put on the 21 to cruise with. It take a little longr to get on plane but it will run 55 mph gps.

EBAY is a good place to pick up props pretty cheap to experiment with if you take your time should be able to pick up some for less than $50.

****, 10 mph difference with the 21 over the 17? How 'much' longer to get on plane? have you run the 19 much? What did you think of it?

It's a bear to get on plane got to get all the weight to the front to push the nose down then it'll go. If not it'll just plow and cavitate. I like the 19 but rarely run it on our small lakes.

What kind of performance do you get with the 19? Does the diameter make any difference? I checked again yesterday, actually I was running almost 55-5600, which is the top end of the engine's rating. (4500-5500) I was thinking of trying a 19. However, if I get an aluminum prop, will it flex more and have less performance than the raker stainless I have?

the steel will be much better.
Heres a bunch of EBAY props less than $50
noote all props are differant. Even the identical prop can will perform differently. Need to buy, beg, and borrow then try and experiment till you find what you like.

    Re: 1978 Evinrude 115 prop?

thanks man. Hey I looked at my prop again last night and it has a stamp on it, CH and then 202T. It is an OMC stainless, but I am starting to think it is a 19 though it does not have any size stamped on it.

Would you be interested in selling the 19 pitch of trading it for another 21 pitch stainless prop.
