    Thumbs down Governor's Race

Is it just me or has everyone forgotten all of the problems that Kentucky has had to deal with in the last 4 years. I have been watching the canidates and all they can come up with is casinos. What happened to health care, schools, finding industries to come to the state not drive them away. On one hand we had a promise of no more of the good old boy in Frankfort and 2 years later there more pardons floating around that a bean eating contest at a county fair. A national TV show highlighted a KY county as having a school libary with a 500 dollar budget for the whole school. What about our returning Vets what are we doing at a state level to support them other than lowering the flags when they don't come home standing up. I am mad at both canidates and I have contacted both campains and told them so. As a soldier I swore an oath to the Flag, our country to my chain of comand and to the people of the United States of America. I had to cut my military career short while on a training mission and I had my back broke, it took me nearly 13 years to get all of my beenifits that I was entitled to because I had earned them, with 8 years of service. I have spoken with many of our young men and women who are coming home disabled some are lucky and had recieved some kind of counseling about their bennifits, but many recieved no such help. want a to take a stand on a subject canidates hees some that count. Schools,Health care, federal and state care for disabled Vets. reasignment of money spent for luxury items for government officals. Reduce states auto fleet restrict the use of those vehicles, if state employees are found running errands, or buying liquor while driving a state vehicle wether or not it is for later consumption. No more closed bids let the public know why the same companies keep getting all of the contracts as soon as they are available.
    Nuff said for Now

    Re: Governor's Race

I hear ya man. It's just easier for candidates to focus on one big issue, and in this case it's casino gambling. By focusing on one big issue, a candidate's position on other issues is overshadowed. I'm sure you can ask anyone about where a candidate stands on casinos, and they'll answer correctly...but if you ask them about education, state spending, etc., you'll get a whole lot of unsure answers. This is why every voter needs to do their research before voting...the only dangerous voter is an uninformed voter.

I would actually like to see casino gambling in Kentucky. The stuff "the good ole boy" shows on television is ridiculous. What he doesn't show are the improvements to the local area that comes with the casino. Improvements in roads and bridges are a result of the increase in funding available for those projects. If you want to see proof of it, take a ride into French Lick Indiana, or the entire county for that matter. New bridges are being installed, highways are being improved and repaired, all of which would not have been done without the financial boost of the local casino! The thing that makes me mad is that a good portion of that money comes not only from Indiana gamblers, but a large portion of Kentucky gamblers! Heck, Ceasars, and Belterra are just the same way! I just don't understand why people take such a stance against casinos, thinking that casinos are "evil." Casinos create jobs and revenue that didn't exist prior.

    Just my opinion...

    Re: Governor's Race

    Greed

Today I am master of social interactions
    Business, politics, relationships and family
I feed off ignorance and apathy
    With mutual reinforcement
I want and take more than I morally deserve
And demand undeserved subsidies and privileges
I motivate dictators, politicians and governments
    To seek and maintain power
    I am protected from competion
    And sustained by voter apathy
For the cost of organizing and lobbing
Is greater than the voter's own benefit
I depend upon apathy to subdue social action
I cringe in the presence of sympathy
For sympathy can replace me with giving
I depend on the absence of sympathy
And benefit from the fruits of ignorance
I encourage ignorance to be reinforced by apathy
And I exploit ignorance in those
With insufficient sympathy to rebuke me
    I reluctantly acknowledge sympathy
As a stronger motivator than self-interest
    However, I encourage selfishness
To be the master motive of human action
I hide in the darkness of the human soul
And shun the light of righteousness
I am furious when I am replaced
With knowledge, sympathy, charity and forgiveness
    For my name is Greed

    Re: Governor's Race

Definitely worth reading and thinking about . I can see it happening !

THIS APPLIES SPIRITUALLY TOO. WE ARE FORGETTING THE HISTORY LESSONS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE TRUTHS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT. OUR FOCUS IS BECOMING MORE ON "CELEBRATING" THE BLESSINGS OF GOD INSTEAD OF "WORSHIPING" THE ONE WHO PROVIDED THOSE BLESSINGS. EVEN OUR CHURCHES ARE TURNING THE "WORSHIP" SERVICES TO " CELEBRATING" SERVICES. LOOK UP THE DEFINITION OF THOSE TWO WORDS IN THE DICTIONARY.

How to Catch a Wild Hog
    By Lowell E. Hedges

Several years ago I was supervising a beginning teacher in a city school
system. One day during our end-of-the-day feedback conference, the young man gave a facial grimace and began to rub his back. I asked him if he had strained his back in the school lab.

After a long period of silence, he sat down at his desk and explained that he had immigrated to the United States because of political problems in his native country. The discomfort in his back was caused by a bullet wound he had received while fighting the Communists who were trying to take over his country's government. He was then a member of the underground nationalist force. Then he asked me a surprising question: "Dr. Hedges, do you know how tocatch a wild hog?" The question was completely out of context regarding the
day's classroom and lab teaching. I replied, "I'm not sure what you are talking about. Tell me."

"First," he said, "you find out where the wild hogs are roaming and feeding
and then you put some corn out in the field. Soon they will come to eat the
corn. You keep putting out the free corn. More wild hogs keep coming to eat the corn."

"So what?" I said. "That's normal for any animal."

"Be patient. I will tell you what comes next," he said. "After the hogs get
used to your free corn, you put up a length of fence along one side of the
feeding area. The hogs get used to it. You keep giving them the corn. Then you put up another section of fence at right angles to the first.
You keep giving them the corn. The hogs get used to the second fence. Then you put up another length of fence at right angles to the second
section." "You now have a U-shaped fenced area. The hogs get used to that section of the fence. You keep giving them free corn. Then you put another section of fence with a gate in it, making a closed area except for the gate. You keep giving them corn. Now, the hogs no longer are out in the fields, working to find their own food. They keep coming into the area to eat the free corn. They get used to the fenced area with the open gate. Then, one day you slam shut the gate when the hogs are inside the fenced area. The wild hogs are caught - they are your prisoners."

I understood then that the wild hogs were really the people of his native
country and that the free corn was the enticements that the Communists were giving to the people.

"That's correct," the young man said. "Now, the hogs will not get anything to eat unless you give them food. You are in control. They depend on you to feed them, or they will starve. They can't get out into the fields and forests anymore to find their own food. They have probably forgotten how, as it is.

They are your servants, your prisoners. They must obey you. Or else they starve."

"The hogs," he said, "were so accustomed to having the free corn, that they ignored the building of the fences that would eventually trap them. When the gate slammed shut, it was too late for them to realize what they had been blind to. The free corn was enticing, so effortless to obtain, but eventually the cause of their loss of freedom. The fence had been built; the gate had been shut."

At this point in our conversation, the young teacher, in a voice shaking with emotion and with fists hitting the desktop, loudly exclaimed, "This is what I see happening in America today! People are being offered free corn by the government. People are blind to the fences being built around them by the liberals - the socialists - and that is what frightens me! Just like it was happening in my homeland. The American people do not learn from history. And history shows that socialism/communism does not work."

"Take note of Russia. Has socialism been the best thing that ever happened to that country? Absolutely not! But socialism is what the American people are being fed, and they don't realize it. All they can focus on is the free corn. They want more and more of the free corn. And this free corn is being fed to us little by little, and soon the gate will slam shut. I am very frightened, and also amazed, that the American people don't see what is being fed us, and for what purpose." With that said, the young man sat down at his desk and continued to rub his painful back. And I was silent in my chair. And afraid. For I could visualize the supposedly "free corn" being fed to our nation's people and our growing addiction to the "free corn". And I could see the gate being slammed shut. We, the people of the United States of America because, of our ignorance of history, because of our addiction to the supposedly "free corn," could soon be prisoners of liberal socialism.

Along with this fighter for freedom from socialism/communism, cry out in a loud voice for all to hear, "Wake up, America! The fences are being built!

Don't you see what is happening to us?"

In the agenda of the new Congress governed by liberal socialists, there is much "free corn" being promised to the American people. In our greed for this "free corn," will we ignore the incremental building of the fences and the inevitable shutting of the gate?

As I ponder the building of the fences now underway by the new Congress, I remember the old adage, "there is always free cheese in a mousetrap." It seems the only thing we learn from history is that we do not learn from history. When the lights go off and the grocery shelves are empty- will you be ready?

    Re: Governor's Race

Personally, I do not want Casino's and I do not want a Democrat. I am a Democrat and for 30 years they did EXACTLY what Fletcher did and got away with it. I know of another Governor who had an affair with a woman in his administration as well. I will not mention her name or his... since I found this out 2nd hand, but the source was good.
    Bottom line..
Democrats want to give us a fish
Republicans want to teach us to fish..
Problem is neither one of these YAHOO's is worthy of our vote.
We need a 3rd party in this state really bad..
Fletcher did balance the budget, bring in more jobs, and eductaion is a bit better.. REMEMBER it was the Democrats who promised us the LOTTERY and to fix education in the state and then stole the money for their pork barrel projects. DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE that Beshear is going to use the money for health care??
Beshear was Lieutenant Governor and was involved in hiring problems in the administration he worked in...???
Can you tell I am conflicted but can not vote for Beshear yet?
Yeah Ernie has not been really good to the sportsmen.. but you know Beshear has tried to take our guns away...
I don't like that either of these guys will talk about issues and not about the others legal problems.
    Jim Dicken
I think I will stay home OR vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE..
How about a write in for None of the Above??
Come on guys lets do it and send a message....

I am as conflicted as you Jim. I keep thinking of a quote I once heard that said something to the tune of "choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil."

I very much agree with the wild hog story. That is why I usually never vote for an incumbent except that will change in the race for the Governor. I do not like nor condone the casino idea to raise more money for pork barrel spending. What really gets my blood boiling is to see a state vehicle being used on a Sat or Sun to go grocery shopping or to church. Too many people are allowed to take them home when they should drive their own vehicle to work and then sign out a state vehicle if they need to take a trip to some other town.

    Come On election time.

Take home cars started with the Democrats.
Beshear asks in one of his commercials for Fletcher to tell folks why we are near the bottom in education, jobs, and welfare... I know the answer..
30 Years of the Democrats in charge.
You do not change that dramatically in 4 years.
We have more jobs than we did 4 years ago, and LOUISVILLE is FINALLY getting near the amount of taxes spent on it as it puts INTO the state budget. IE The new arena is thanks to Ernie Fletcher....
BUT my biggest point... Democrat Wallace Wilkinson promised us better education with the Lottery.. and we got more money in the STATE general fund instead of money for EDUCATION... do you Casino People REALLY believe that the money from Casino's will go to Medical Care for those without insurance????
IF YOU DO? I have a bridge on the Ohio I want to sell you..
Goes nowhere, and has no current connections to either shore, but its a great bridge.

    Re: Governor's Race

Accually the Dems had 37 years to get us in the shape we are in. I think ole Ernie has done a Great job in the 3.5 years he has had. More people are working, with more industry on the way. Lots and lots of world renound venues are coming to the state and Education benchmarks have never been higher. On a side note, the only person who is gonna take my guns is my unborn son when I have expired. And the dem donkeys in Congress promised so much change in thier first 100 days and all they can focus on is wanting to alienate Turkey one of our few precious allies in the middle east just to make it harder on our Troops over somthing that happened over 100 years ago. If that is the case we must label Early American Settlers with Geneocide for what we (White Man my self included) for what we did to the Indians. We have to stop setting in front of the Evening News and believing what the Liberal TV is saying. I mean come on people. To me that is treason. I beg you my fellow sportsmen to wake up and see what is going on. We are being slowly over taken by NON Americans and the Left in the country are pushing this to happen. Either you are an American or you are a foreigner. You can't be both. It is not my way of life I am affraid of losing it is our existance. Sorry I got off topic but it all relates back. However with all that said we still live in a Democratic Society where majority rules but we must quit believing those left wing traitors. Our childrens future depends on it. God bless you all and God Bless America.

    Re: Governor's Race

I could not, in good conscience, vote for either of those 2 bozos.

It's easy to throw out terms like healthcare and education, but you almost never hear anyone throw out a PLAN to improve those things that actually has a chance of working.

As for casinos, I'm fiscally libertarian (not socially) and I think if someone wants to build a casino they should be able to do it. The problem with the way the government is proposing it is that they would regulate it to the point that only their friends, cronies and relatives would be able to open them and get rich. It's kind of like what those folks from KEEP were trying to do.

I am basically a libertarian, but Casino's have several problems, among which are the points you make.. but also:
History shows that they put other businesses OUT of business by draining the available cash from the Econonmy... IE Restaurants, Entertainment, Horse Racing Etc.
History also shows that to make money... someone has to LOSE MONEY.. and in losing money, means taking it out of the economy, and lowering taxes from sales and from jobs.
    YES: Casino's creat jobs.
YES: Casino's have a net NEGATIVE effect on jobs overall.
When you **** from the teet of taxes, you end up dependent on taxes and tax revenue goes down with Casino's. This means dependency on not only Casino's but on DEMOCRATS who pass the taxes and run the liberal welfare system.
So far Fletcher has balanced the budget when we had a Billion Dollar deficit looming and did it without more taxes. (Taxes also **** money from the economy without producing jobs.)
While his pardons in the hiring scandal were not good, he did nothing that the Democrats did NOT do for 30 years prior to his coming to office.
IF we elect a Democratic Governor and a Democratic Attorney General we will see the SAME **** THING AGAIN..
Neither deserves our vote, but the devil you know .. is better than the devil you do not..
