    Painting Crankbaits

Does anyone on this board custom paint crankbaits? I have a couple of old Poe's 400's that are beat to death from years of catching fish, and i hate to just throw them away. If anyone here does that kind of thing could you please let me know, would love to have them redone. Thanks

I had a couple of Rat-L-Traps that the finish had almost completely came off. I wanted some Black and silver colored ones to imitate shad. So I spray painted them black and then took a combo pack or epoxy resin. I applied some silver glitter to the resin then applied the epoxy to the bait on one side and let dry then done the other side. I now have several Rat-L-traps with silver glitter, going to try the gold glitter next. Remove the hooks and stick a clamp of some sort to the location where the hooks attach, in order to hold the lure while applying the epoxy. They are now almost virtually impossible to nick the paint off now. This is also what I do to my sinkers, now I have about 6 different sinkers that match almost all of my plastics that I fish with most often.

Back in the day some research came out that suggested that predatory fish like bass keyed in on the red gill color when they ambushed prey. At least someone claimed they had research to that effect.

I still have a bunch of nice Rapalas and Bagleys I probably ruined by painting red gill plates on them with fingernail polish.

As long as the plugs still run right, the fish won't care. Seriously, fisherman get waaaay too bent out of shape over fine details on paint schemes. I've got plenty of plugs with paint that is beat up, or started out as just primer that still catch more than their share of fish.
