Where Is The Best Place To Mount Your Transducer?
Thru The Hull
Or Outside?
That just dedends...thru hull and outside mount both have pros and cons
Thru hull PRO...not as prone to lose signal.
If mounted in a place that looses signal it can be moved without leaving a hole in the hull.
You will not have to worry about hitting a stump and breaking the transducer
No wires exposed outside the boat to get damaged (unless you have an external temp probe)
Most can read up to speeds of 70 mph
Thru hull CON... you will have to get an external temp probe for water tempature. It will read a temp but mounted in the hull it will be the hull tempature not water. Normally +or-1 or 2 degrees differance between hull and water
You will loose a little sensitivity shooting the signal thru the hull
Outside mount PRO...great sensativity
easier to install
Outside Mount CON...drill holes in hull
prone to prop wash interferance. some transducers will not read the bottom when the boat is on plane and very few will read bottom running at wide open throttle.
Outside mount just seems to be a stump magnet...LOL
I prefer to have mine thru hull mounted with an external temp probe if the unit is mounted at the drivers console. If it is the trolling motor I want it mounted on the TM shaft.
