Winter jig fishing for SM on clear water lakes such as LC and DH is new to me, so I could use your help chasing those brown fish with the jig. My has reading suggested casting 1/4 oz jigs in water depths up to 50 feet in depth. Beyond that, how should I work the jig....? Cast to the points....OR....stay on the point and cast out, .....Drop shot the jig in ??? feet of water off points or slowly jig it around the bottom OR WHAT? Slow retrive, fast retrive, hop the retrive?????
Tried all of the above at Lake Cumberland the the past days with no hits (please don't tell me I should have been fishing atat DH (but I do love DH). Only fish I caught were 17 - 18 inch SM, using FNF and 10' leader.
Appreciate all comments and any help.
Good fishing to all,
Gary

Boone, Ive been to Cumberland 3 times since Dec 15 and not caught but 2 bass on a jig (and wasted a ton of gas). I went to herrington the other day and caught 6 largemouth all on cranks. guess where I'll be going next?
I love the smallie waters at Dale and C'land as much as anyone, but either I dont do it right or dont do it enough on those two lakes.
Thanks Guys,
Also got some good input from the guys down in the Hollow;

1/2 oz football jig with favorite trailer. work rock piles and slides on MAIN LAKE or large creek arms. drag across bottom and hang on. friend fished Lake C last week and caught 4 - 3 over 3# and the fourth over 5#. you have to just stay with it on both cumberland and dale. it can be very frustrating on both at times. good luck and let me know if you need more info.
