Some of the best pre-spawn on Barkley starts in the middle of March. Barkley is sometimes easier to fish than Ky lake because of the wind this time of yr. I like jigs and crawfish colored crankbaits on gravel and chunk rock points. Good luck!!!!

Hey "Sore Thumb II"
Your buddy must be a very intelligent man. I hear he fishes in March in the small farm ponds, pulling out ligament stretching hogs. While you are obviously trolling around at 50mph while throwing out your rat'l traps, doing nothing more than getting wind burned and upsetting your buddy, (who by the way, is stuck in the back at the mercy of your 24 volt 6,000 lb Minn Kota). Slow down son, you are passing up the real fish. The reason they get so big is because they aren't so fast to jump on lures right away.
I did awesome last year on a jerkbait. Fished nothing but a jerkbait in a tourney last year and couldn't even lift a glass of water that night. I use a shorter rod now - lesson learned.
Early prespawn in March...spawn normally peaks around the 3rd week of April on Barkley (this is for LM).
