In/Around Lexington and Any Good Books?

Used to fish a lot, but haven't in quite some time. Looking to get back into it. I live in Lexington and am willing to drive 30 minutes-1 hour. I'm definitely going to the Elkhorn next week, but would love to hear about any other good spots. I don't have any specific fish in mind, either.

Also, could anyone recommend a good book to a beginner?

1HR will put you at Herrington Lake or Cedar Creek Lake .. coming out of Lexington. Other than those, most other lakes are 1.5hrs of drive time, and up. Elkhorn and the KY River are also possibilities. Best "book" I can recommend, is a KY Atlas & Gazetteer ... LOL!!
Also recommended - contact the KDFWR and get all their free booklets/pamphlets. Check out their website, KY Afield website (& magazine), and http://www.gameandfishmag.com/ (click on KY, on the map, and you can read alot of the articles from previous issues).

I used to live by the Atlas & Gazetteer when I traveled around stream fishing. You can travel a far as you like, but it is hard to beat the "good" spots on the Elkhorn. I lived in Georgetown for 6 years, and fished the Elkhorn several days a week - loved it. If you have access to a small boat or Canoe, my next favorite spot would be the Dix river (herrington Tail waters). Very scenic trip up the river - worth it if you don't catch fish, but good fish to be caught there too.

Beaver Lake is in Lawrenceburg is a good 30 minute drive from Lexington.

Youve got the river. But also as a kid I used to burn up jacobson park. You might laugh but Ive pulled allot of good fish from there. Mostly in the back part. Easy to get hung up though. Willowgreen in Richmond also. Willasburg of the BG parkway. Salt river in L-burg or Harrodsburg. Ed

wilgreen is a good place. jacobson park is good for small bluegill, channel cats, and carp.
