Humane Society to get say on Advisory Board??

    From: US Sportsmans Alliance
Sportsmen Must Defend Against Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board Changes

    Immediate action needed

Legislation that will guarantee two seats for a known anti-hunting organization on the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board has been introduced by Senator Tom Buford, R- Nicholasville. Sportsmen’s grassroots action is imperative if this bill is to be stopped.

On February 29 Senate Bill 206 was introduced by Senator Buford. If passed, the bill will allow noted anti-hunting group, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to control two seats on the Board. HSUS will submit a list of three Kentucky residents of its choosing and two of those candidates will be selected to the Board.

The Animal Control Advisory Board is part of the Department of Agriculture and was created for evaluating applications for and reviewing disbursements from the animal control and care fund, creating training programs and other duties relating to animal control in Kentucky.

“Sportsmen should be outraged and must take action to prevent SB 206 from allowing HSUS to influence the Board with its animal rights views,” said Rob Sexton, vice president of government affairs for the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA).

A bill such as this will allow the anti-hunting movement to gain yet another foothold while setting a dangerous precedent for the rest of the country.

Take Action! Kentucky sportsmen must contact their Legislators today. Urge them to oppose SB 206, which guarantees Board membership to two people hand picked by the Humane Society of the United States.

To find your Kentucky legislators, call (800) 372-7181 or use the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is a national association of sportsmen and sportsmen’s organizations that protect the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs. For more information about the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance and its work, call (614) 888-4868 or visit its website, www.ussportsmen.org.

The way I read this.. The Humane society could influence laws concerning both fishing and hunting and cause severe problems for Farms wanting to have Fish Farms... Like Catfish, Prawns etc.. which are regulated by Ag.
This could affect stocking of lakes, and ponds in some cases if fish farms in the state were regulated out of business by this group.
I do not know how many seats there are on the Panel, but if they are getting 2 it would not take that many more to make serious trouble for all sportsmen.

Well there are 14 total if I read it correctly. Here is a link to the site all you have to do is click on the SB 206.

Unless you have more information than is shown in this article, I really don't
see where you're making the connection or how it would have much of an affect on hunting.

Don't see a need to get our bloodpressure up over this one. See KY AGR web site for details of "what they (AB)" and the "Department of AGR do".

Allowing an organization whose named intent is to end animal ownership on a board that regulates animals is self destructive.
They will do all in their power to cause problems for the department concerning any and all issues having to do with farming and hunting. It is ONE MORE instance of having them in a position to affect our sport. THEY ARE 100% against Hunting and Fishing. Putting a group like this on the board is nothing but pandering to a constituancy.
HSUS does not have the best interest of animals on their minds.. they want to segregate man from animals. Totally cut all links between us and them.
Would you WANT THIS ORGANIZATION ON THE FISH AND WILDLIFE COMMISSION?
Then stop them here and now..
We have ignored the progress of the AR movement to the point that they have access to our schools and to our kids. Our children are being fed a goo of Animal Rights and Extreme Eco-Friendly nonsense so they will follow mindlessly the teachings of the HSUS and PETA.
When they come for our right to hunt and fish will anyone stand up for us?

Humane Society and Peta are pretty much the same organization so that is how it will have an affect on policy

Can you show me where the "named intent" of the Humane Society is to end animal ownership? I'd be careful making claims about them that do not seem to have any merit.

Also, this advisory board seems to have little or no relationship to hunting.

They are a little strange, but overall they don't look that bad. It certainly does not look like their intention is to eliminate amimal ownership, just responsible ownership.

Not sure I understand what cosmetic surgery for animals involves?????

The Humane Society actually ADOPTS out pets to people so it's pretty ridiculous to state that their intent is to eliminate animal ownership.

Thanks Smee for the link, good information....hope the rest of the board reads it and makes up their own mind.

It is alway better to spend the time and try to sort out information/mis-information for oneself. Always hate to jump on someones band wagon based on a 30 second "sound bit or press release", i.e. a paid lobby group (before anyone replies to this statement, please check out the membership list for U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance ). Looks a little BIT commercial to me. My 2 Cents.

I went to their site too, and they actually go so far as to say that they're not even opposed to all horse racing or horse shows, so how could they possibly be against all animal ownership? Besides, Tom Buford is a conservative Republican. He couldn't possibly be introducing legislation detrimental to hunting and fishing interests, now could he? Only us liberal Democrats do that
