Gov. Beshear and gambling supporters are beginning one final push to legalize casino gambling in KY.

    Predictions, anyone?

It will take place. Steve Beshear is as crooked as a dogs hind leg. That guy lies in his sleep, I can't stand to look at him anymore. I am for the casino's personally, why not. People are gonna do what people are gonna do. They want booze they will drive to get it, they want gambling they will drive to get it. Why let Hooterville get the extra tax base when we can get it for ourselves, makes sense to me. But believe me what Stevo wants Stevo gets, or as the Donald would say, YOUR FIRED, end of story.

I am there with you on this one Mhall. I go to the boats on occasion. Next time you are there (or drive by one), take a look around the parking lot. Almost 2/3 of the cars have Kentucky plates. If the money generated is used appropriately, I am all for it too. I chunk of this money in Indiana is used for education. They are able to pay their teachers a good deal more than the teachers in Kentucky, creating a competitive market for teachers - bringing in more quality eduactors, and improving the education for that entire state. Kentucky was forced to raise their teacher salaries to be competitive (Louisville was having a hard time convincing teachers not to make the trip over the bridge for more money). Now there is no money in the education budget left to continue the plan of creating a competitive salary for teachers. Everyone wonders why Kentucky ranks near the bottom in terms of education, but they are one of the lowest paying states in terms of teacher salaries. I love any opportunity to get on the education soap box, and this opportunity presented itself. Under the current plan a large percentage of the money generated from controlled gambling in kentucky would go directly into the education fund.

Its a crap shoot! The ministers will start with all the evils of gaming, and what it does to family life, and to some extent they are right, it is addictive.I go to Mississippi as often as I can, and will continue to do so even if KY does allow gaming. Some money will go to education, BUT most of it will be stolen for the pols pet projects. Its absolutly stupid for folks to rail against legal gaming, and then go to OTB parlors. As far as ministers are involved, I'm pretty darn sure when that collection basket goes around, they dont question where the money comes from. They cast lots for his clothing. Know where that comes from? Our churches up north had a lot of bingo games, thats gaming. Now if the Gov said some of the money would go to churches, what would happen? One unusual thing here, in michigan where indian casinos flourish, they are buying back property that once was legaly theres.

Personally, I'm against it. Sure, it would bring in more $$ for the state, but at what cost to the areas where they set up the casinos. Nothing against gambling in moderation, and have been to a few places myself. Its the crap that comes along with it that I am against.

I'm with Andrew on this one. The promised money to the educational system will not be there and what is there will be wasted. I came to this conclusion based on a history of watching politicians lie to get anything they want for their pet projects and to repay the people who gave them tons of money to get elected. Florida was going to get miliions and millions for their educational system with the Lottery, well many years later my sister still pays for quite a bit of supplies for her students and the pay stinks! What do you think they sold the public on when proposing the lottery?
Another problem aside from the crap that comes with it is that we (tax payers) will be paying for gambling addicted bozo's who have to either go on welfare because they are losers who can't control themselves or they will spend their government funds which should go to food and raising kids. It will be a mistake....So more money goes to the casinos, they don't raise our taxes immediatly (ha) and we pay in the long run from a tax on gamblers rehab facilities and additional taxes because we have more Kentucky families going on Government support. I'll let you in on a little secret Churchill Downs is behind gambling big time. They'll throw the money out to get it on the ballot to vote on. Next time you go by the racetrack look at the backside where the big new part of the building sticks out. That part was left unfinnished for future gambling and you can take that to the bank. I don't have a problem with gambling since I worked on ceasars and haven't been back since and it's less than 12 miles from where I live. It's nobodys business what you want to do with your money including a bunch of hypocrit preachers who get paid by the people they preach too which seems to be okay with them as long as they get the money instead of someone else..

Anyone remember the selling point for the lottery in ky? It was for education if I remember correctly and I wonder where all that money has gone to since day one?

I'd vote for it because i like to gamble but it won't solve anything, look at Vegas right now and think of the traffic they get.Beshear blew smoke up everyones posterior and most are still to "smoky" to realize it.

So its going to cause social problems? like what? There are already crack addicts and meth addicts all over the state. Every week there is the court docket, and most of it is for DUI, and this is a dry county. It will create jobs for some hard working folks, but the lazy red necks wont work them.If this guy that was elected, is such a crook, how come he beat such an outstanding incumbent? And if that incumbent was so astute and honest, why the heck are we in a budget crunch the first day the new gov takes office. Some folks just believe everything a politician tells them, if they belong to that party. there is an old saying that is absolutly true. " you can tell when a politician is going to lie, his or her lips move" You can bet the house on that!

I want to get one thing perfectly clear with you guys. I THINK ALL POLITICIANS ARE LIEING, CHEATING, MONEY GRUBBING NO COUNT PIECES OF SH!T. I ALWAYS HAVE AND I ALWAYS WILL. Now that I've got that off my chest I feel much better now. Give this Democat versus Republican thing a rest they are all thieves and lieing trash that's why they are in politics. A buddy of mine lives right next door to a State Rep., which I will leave nameless. He occasionally will have an adult beverage with us and the more he has the more loose lipped he becomes. This so called budget crisis is an absolute joke and another lie. According to him it's how funds are allocated and if you put your own spin to it you can call it anything you like. Again according to him there is NO budget crisis, all made up by the Bequeer administration to get money for his special interest, and guess what I believe it and it has absolutely nothing to do with my party lines.

Are you serious? Being angry with a situation doesn't make a "change" better. I think we have just jumped out of the frying pan into the fire with this guy. You know that sometimes you get what you ask for. Sounds like your falling into believing the same garbage that Beshear is dishing out. Lazy Red Necks? Oops, you could have just said lazy people don't see how red necks fit into that statement. I agree 100% about the statement on politicians lying! hagd

    Re: Casino Gambling in KY--predictions?

I totally ageree with your description of politicains. i'm glad that the gov is sticking it to williams every chance he gets.but that bozowill be re-elected in this district, and then maybe the gov can really stick it to us folks in this district. That last turkey not only raised the fishing fees, he also wanted a launch fee, which after awhile I thought would be a good idea, if t6he money was spent to improve facilities. Then leasing the state park marina to a private concern frosted m,y ass, I'll never go back to that ramp again, and I hope the budget crunch causes that guy to loose his ass. If i'm right, that particular owner was the one who got the ball rolling allowing private operators to charge launch fees, on corp lakes, and letting them get away with not returning off road gasoline fees to customers. But it isn't only KY, the place I usd to launch my boat to fish lake michigan, closed the ramp, because there was a river boat docked there, they all sell us down river republican or democrat.
