Around I-64 the best and easieist ramps to get to would be in Frankfort or Henry Co. Just find you a good map and you will find them. If you want to go up I-71 to Carrollton you would have a few more options as well, good luck.

I'm planning to get on the Kentucky River for the first time. Keep driving over it and admiring how pretty it is, time to get on it. Coming from Louisville, where is the best ramp that is close to I64? From that ramp, where is the nearest lock both up and down river? Would like for the ramp to be in a good area, not having to worry about anybody messing with my truck or trailer. Thanks in advance.

I've just started exploring that magnificent river the past couple years, and I'm sure others on the board know a lot more about it than I do, but coming from Louisville, probably the closest ramp to I-64 would be Benson Creek in Frankfort. But I think it's pretty far upstream to the next dam. The locks are all closed , so if you want to fish right below a dam you have to get there from the downstream side. My next river trip, I'm putting in at High Bridge. I've seen pics, and the scenery is spectacular, plus that's how you get to the lower Dix River. Good Luck wherever you end up, and let us know how you do.
I've used the one at Cummins ferry a lot just because I kept my trailer there last year. It's right across from the camp store so your vehicle is secure and it's a beautiful stretch of river with good fishing.
Thanks for the input fellas. Much appreciated.
There is a ramp near the East-West Connector road in Frankfort (Hwy 636) Turn at the stoplight near the bridge. From that ramp its about 13 miles to Lock and dam 5 upstream. You can't lock through but can fish below the dam.
