Here is all information associated with participation in the Battle of the Bluegrass hosted by WKU.
Note: Limited to collegiate students
Location: Barren River Lake.
Ramp: Barren River State Park.
Date: The tournament will take place on Saturday, June the 7th. The official practice day is June 6th, and we will be covering the cost of one hotel room per school (Friday night). Of course you may practice before this date, but you will only have paid motel rooms for one night.
Times: Blast-off will be at 5:30 A.M. local time and Weigh-In will be at 3:00 P.M. local time.
Lodging: Lodging will be provided for Friday night. It will be at Days Inn in Glasgow.
Pre tournament Meeting: The pre tournament meeting will take place on Friday night @ 8:00 at the State Ramp Launch site. This will allow anglers to pre fish until dark.
Off-Limits: Tournament waters will be off limits before Friday 30th. You may fish Friday the 30th untill the date of the tournament.
Payout: Due to the price of gas, and cost of expenses, we have all agreed to change the format this year, and have an entry fee to reward the anglers hard work. The entry fee will be $50.00 a team, with an optinal big bass pot of $10.00. It will be a 100% payback, and the number of places paid out will be discussed at the pre-tournament meeting on Friday night (based on number of competetors).
Participation: In order to make this event as large as possible, we encourage the teams to send as many anglers as possible. The top three teams from each school will compete against the teams from other schools. The 3 teams will compete for an average school weight. This weight will determine the winning school.
Rules
Culling: Culling of dead fish is not allowed, all culling must be done as soon as the 6th keeper is in possession. A fish is in your possession as soon as it enters the boat. Each team may only possess 5 fish. Any contestant bringing in more than the allotted creel limit will be penalized 1lb per fish.
Late Penalty: All boats must be inside of the no-wake zone and off plane before the tournament end time. There will be a 1 lb penalty for every minute a boat is late. After 15 minutes the boat is disqualified.
Life Jackets: Life jackets and kill switches must be warn any time the combustion engine is running.
Dead/Short Fish: There will be a 1/4lb penalty for every dead fish weighed in, and a 1/2lb penalty for any short fish brought to the scales and turned over to the scalemaster.
Species Discretion: Spotted bass will be determined by the jaw line: the jaw line must not extend past the eye. The fish must also have the distinct tongue patch. Once you have turned a fish over to the scalemaster, it is at his discretion.
Measuring Fish: A courtesy board will be provided for any questionable fish. Fish are to be measured from the end of the lower jaw to the tip of the tail with fish laying flat on an official club measuring device (GOLDEN RULE) with mouth closed and tail lobes squeezed together. Once fish have been placed in the tournament Committee’s possession, they are subject to the judge’s ruling, which is final.
Fishing Methods: All Bass must be caught while alive and in a conventional fishing manner. Only artificial lures, with the exception of pork trailers, may be used at any given time. Only one (1) fishing rod may be used at a time. Trolling as a method of fishing is prohibited.
Sportsmanship: All contestants are expected to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, safety and conservation. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the boat or in the possession of a contestant until after the final weigh-in. Failure to comply can result in immediate disqualification and potentially grounds for suspension from future Club activities.
Protests: All protesst must be submitted orally or written, following tournament weigh-ins to the Tournament Director.
