Fishing a tourny the other day i broke a good fish off on my spinning setup that would have gave us first place....i was using 10lb pline spectrex braid with a 8lb mono leader...the line broke down close to the hook which makes me think think there could have just been a nick in the line but i dont want to take any more chances...so should i go buy some light flourocarbon for my leader or just stick with mono

Smuckey,
One of the current trends is to throw braid on a spinning outfit and use a mono/fluro leader to connect to the bait. The leader is tied directly to the braid. I use fluro for my leader if the water is really clear. If there is any stain I use just the braid. 10lb braid is not very noticable under the surface.
I would also switch to the flurocarbon leader! Fluro versus mono, there's no comparison in strength. I very seldom use any mono anymore, except on topwaters and if I'm trying to slow the fall rate. (I also use a little every now and then if I'm night fishing alot)!
whats the best knot to tie when connecting the flouro to the braid... i usually tie like a wierd lookin improved clinch and then put some fishermans glue on it.....
I always use a Blood Knot and it has never failed me.
15 lb sea gar, I use a figure 8 knot, been using it for yrs, and while it may not be as strong as the palomar, its a heck of a lot easier to tie. i use that same knot to make the leader with my braid. But it is very important to wet the knot first, with flouro or mono.
