They were never against the troops that's just plain wrong and a Liberal cheap shot. McCain stated that he wanted a sliding scale of benefits based on time served not just a blanket hand out of money. McCain wanted to encourage longevity in the service. What's wrong with getting more from the investment based on hard work? Who knows how much money is spent training these soldiers? The longer they are in the better the return for the Military and the soldier's college benefits.
Bottom line is the Bill passed...sounds like both Dems and Reps did well.

Re-up pay is at its highest level ever. I cant believe that a msgt can get over 12000 bucks for a burst of six, but hey a lot of them are worth it.Heck my step dad is probably rolling over in his grave. He was old old army, took two years to make pfc, and 6 to even think about corporal.

What and I guess you don't think a MSGT. is worth 12,000 bucks to re-enlist for 6.... I beg your pardon but a lot of Training and learning and Teaching as well go into a MSGT. earning that money ....... But then again the Bonus's they earn are paid as to what type of Mos they are in to begin with......

I did my 21 years 6 months and 13 days and have seen alot of CSM's "Forrest Gump" their way to the top. The Army doesn't care about quality soldiers right now, just numbers. I work with soldiers every day and I must say they are mostly high quality, but there are a few that are substandard and should not be non commissioned officers. But they are because of the change in the retention control points. Just look at how long a SGT E-5 can stay now. AR 600-9 is completely out the window. The Army is the best in the world but it has lowered it's standards,

I said a lot of them are worth it!!!Dont get your skivys in a knot. I have a grandson in Iraq, and he did his tour in afganistan. I know that a lot of money is spent training certain mos,es. But I also know that some top echelon specialista are recruited by defense contractors, who offer some darn big bucks.One of the selling points of recruitment is tuition help, and a lot of kids join because of that. My niece wanted tobe a marine language specialist, she speaks french and spanish, but there was that song and dance, that the schools are all filled but she would be given first choice after her training. Her dad is a vet, and so am I,we explained that promises made are not always kept, its mission first. She went on and got her degree on her own. My step dad was career but his speciality was just plain leg. But hewanted the infantry, and thats where he wound up.
