    Fish Advisory Ohio River

Did anyone hear of a new fish advisory of high mercury content on the Ohio River between Big Sandy River and Markland Dam?
    Thanks,

No I haven't heard that, however KY has 1,780 stream miles of mercury warnings of the 9,219 miles of navigable waterways. I know that doesn't sound like alot but it really is and anyone who eats fish should assume that there is a mercury risk and take heed of the warnings issued and limit your consumption.

I am aware of the statewide advisory for mercury but this I heard on a Cincinnati radio station last week. The Ohio River has a HIGH mercury content beween Big Sandy and Markland. I was wanting to know if anyone heard this on the news or by KDF&W. I looked on the webpage, no info there.
    Thanks,

    http://migration.kentucky.gov/newsroom/chfs/Fish+08.htm

"Due to recent tissue samplings of sauger and catfish, the advisory for the Upper Reach of the Ohio River (mouth of the Big Sandy River to Markland Dam) is being modified to one meal per month for the general population and six meals per year for special or sensitive populations. Advisories for the Middle Reach (Markland Dam to Cannelton Dam) and the Lower Reach (Cannelton Dam to Mississippi River) remain unchanged from last year’s advisory."

    Hope this helps.

Truth is, the only reason that every body of water in KY isn't under a mercury advisory warning, is that every body of water hasn't been tested. If you look for mercury, you'll find it. Coal fired power plants have blanketed mercury over the whole state. On the plus side, I've never heard of anybody actually getting sick from eating fish.
