    Rod Guide Size

Anyone know the correlation between rod guide (casting) size and their diameter?

I need to replace a guide of known diameter but not sure what the proper "size" is

    Thanks

    Re: Rod Guide Size

I "googled" rod guide size and sorry, I could not find a coorelation between "size" and "diameter". You might try it and see if you find something I did not.
Can you remove the guide and take with you to Basspro, etc and match it to the new guide?

I dont know the diameter versus size, however most guides on a casting rod are a size 8 beyond the guide closest to the reel. You can go to Jann's Netcraft site and can research them or even call them at an 800 number and they will be happy to help you.

More than likely it is an 8 if it is a bass or similar rod. What kind of rod is it on, length, weight, etc? If you are in the Louisville area I can help you with getting your rod fixed or getting you in the right direction. Ryan.

If you still have the guide look on the guide foot, the part that is covered by the thread, and it should have a number on it. The number is the size of the guide.

    Re: Rod Guide Size

It depends on the rod and how old it is really. zx150 is right that most have a number on them but that isn't always true. pac bay guides don't have the numbers if I'm not mistaken. Guides are sized by the OD of the ring and are measured in milimeters. For example if the OD of the ring is 6mm the ring size is 6. If you have some calipers by chance it's a quick and easy thing to figure out, what type of guide it is, is another thing. lol Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help. I'll check out the guide feet of some other spares I have to get an idea. My guess is that its a mm OD or ID as Dpage said.

BTW its a 6'4" Abu Garcia jerk-bait muskie rod, at least 10 years old.

rods guides go by the outer diameter of the ceramic insert im not familliar with the rod but if i seen the guide i could probably tell you what brand and model the guide is if you are trying to match the new one to the old ones
