    Bucktails

I have a fresh bucktail (okay technically it is a doe tail) and would like to use it for fly tying. Do I need to do anything to treat it, or is it ready to go?

What I used to do was de-bone it and then fill it full of salt to dry the flesh out a little. Also I used to dye some with rit fabric dye. Depending on how strong yuo make it the darker it will get. I dyed some black one time and they turned out a real good brown color.

Yea it works. Just de-bone it and put salt on it.

Thanks, now that its not freezing nights I'm going to hang my salty stinky tail outside, if it hasn't rotted or molded any, I haven't looked at it for awhile. Either way early squirrel season is coming in June.
