    How Long will Ameerica Last?

    I copied this from an email, I hope it comes out OK.

    Grumpy

    HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?

    About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

    'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

    'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

    From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

    'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

    During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    1. from bondage to spiritual faith

    ;2. from spiritual faith to great courage;

    3. from courage to liberty;

    4. from liberty to abundance;

    5. from abundance to complacency;

    6. from complacency to apathy;

    7. from apathy to dependence;

    8. from dependence back into bondage'

    Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

    Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29

    Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

    Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million

    Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

    Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already; having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

    If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

    Anyone can pick and choose from history books, a Grumpy prophecy, or the ramblings of a couple (or three) old coots? I have little to no confidence to those fwd,fwd (2),etc., emails. First of all we are not governed like the Athenian Republic that was more than 2,250 ago under a different system. That email is slanted with the ideas and opinions of its writer, that's all. If I interpret the gist of it, someone is saying that it's been 200 years now and American civilization will cease to exist if we elect a Democrat as President. Why not just say that it has been more than 2000 years since the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt so the US citizens will be enslaved in Mulefart, Egypt because their civilization has collapsed? Now roll the dice!

    Ahhhhh....I think we like kinda missed these steps somewhere around 9/11/2001. Ya know like dude when the airplanes like ran into the buildings, like some folks got really angry about that, kicked Sadam's butt, sent a hole bunch of those folks in the "52 card faces", to have a pow-wow with Allah, sent Bin Laden a serious enough "letter of intent", that he kinda dug himself a hole and ran for the moles to hide, and also sent a whole bunch of those masked Al-Qaeda monkeys to the "Allah's Conference for all Eternity" jamboree. I don't think we got much to worry about the apathy thing or even advancing passed that. I mean dude we all like chill sometimes, but.......but.....like when some dude like "crashes our chill", well we get real American, real hostile, and real "whoop-butt", like really quick like. That, dude, AIN'T APATHY. Thats reaction to provocation....and that tells me us dudes are going to be around for a long time. Oh yeah, the math thing. 1776 plus 200 = 1976, year is 2008, and that's like 32 years more that the 200 year deadline to go extinct? So does that mean we're too "apathethic" to be on time to go totally "historical", or does that mean as 32 is about 1/6th of 200, that the published article is already like 16% wrong about us? Oh yeah, and getting wrong-er by the minute?

    I saw some apathy just yesterday. My friend was having a a conversation with his mother-in-law about the election. She was proud to say that she was voting for Obama. She is a very sweet Christian woman that is active in her church. She was asked about her thoughts on abortion and she said that there wasn't anything we could do about it. She said it didn't matter who was president, abortion wasn't going anywhere. She said what really upset her was our military torturing people. That's one of the reasons why she is voting Obama. It's hard to overcome that kind of mentality. We deserve what we get.

    There's one clear choice in this election.....Socialism or Capitalism....choose.
