Actually I find a short rod (6ft) to be the best for this. I use a 6ft Falcon medium hvy action fast tip and also just a plain ol 6ft Berkly Lightning rod 6 ft medium heavy action. These rods double also for suspending jerkbaits.

whats the best action and length for the longer topwaters; spooks, sammy's,...?
I would think a medium action 7'0 rod would be best, any particular brand you guys prefer?

I've got 2 of those lighting rods on the shelf, I guess I'll be getting one of them out.
Thanks Dave.

Gloomis makes a 5'10" MH with a pistol grip in the Bronzeback series. Don't own one personally, I use spinning tackle for topwater walkers, but sold a few this year and the customers have been very very happy with this rod. Some really like it for fishing Flukes aswell.
