Drove to South Lick today and found a little open water near the ramp and it is starting to open just south of the bridge. It was 70' today with lots of wind with rain and more warm tomorrow we should get the lake open real soon. I HOPE!

Well I just couldn't stand it. Had to drive over and check out the lake before starting my prep. Great news, the ice is all gone in the South Lick area and with the wind and warm temps would imagine the whole lake is ice free.

Friend and I drove around the lake today and of course we had to take a rod with us. Second place we tried we got into the crappies even if they were small (7-8 inches). Between us we easily caught 150 on small(1/64th oz) jigs under bobbers from 2 to 4 foot deep. Any action in February is wonderful.

Anytime Geo. Hope to get the boat in next week and try to find some bigger ones. There were a few boats on the water yesterday.

Patoka really isn't much of a river above the lake. You would need a canoe or kayak. But if you did get into the river I think you would need a sticker as all the ramps are on the lake.
Went back today, same place, same jigs. No fish, nothing. Did see an eagle and two big flocks of sandhills though.

First thing I noticed was the lack of shad activity. When we caught all of them you could see shad all over the surface. Tried a couple other places with one being a beaver den. Caught lots of small gills there but no crappies.
