    Stabilizing a Jon Boat

My 10 ft aluminum flat bottom boat scared the crap outta me last year. I was thinking of some sort of homemade outriggers. Does anyone here have any info they would like to share on the subject? Thanks in advance.

You can take pvc pipe and make pontoons for each side. Shouldn't be to difficult.

We went through this dilemma years ago with a 14ft Jon boat. We never really perfected any ideas but we did get the seats lower in the boat and distributed the weight better.

what djd said... lower the center of gravity on the boat and just be easy when u move around.. i used to have a 10 footer when i was in highschool adn i reached for a lure on a limb once and i got to take a swim in the ole cumberland river.... i was on edge when i had that boat and really couldnt enjoy fishing... if u cant get the pontoons figured out i would upgrade to a wider and longer boat because if u cant have fun fishing why go...

don't have one but I'm with Tim on this one for an economical way and you may consider filling the pvc with that expanding foam spray or even the foam pipe wrap insulation to add some more bouyancy(sp) for added help. Just another Kaizan to the topic. If you use the spray foam then you will have to drill some small holes periodically down the middle to get the spray all the way to the center. Don't use the Triple Expanding stuff because it is pretty potent and could split the pvc the normal expanding should do just fine.
