Try using screen over the pond. You probably have a raccoon getting the fish not the hawk. Hawks prefer small rodents, etc
If it is a raccoon, you might want chain link, barbed wire and land mines...
I didnt know hawks would catch a fish from the water. Are you sure that is what it is?
Screens are good during the winter as you will most likely not be out enjoying your koi as much.
Other options include motion activated sprinkers that will scare just about anything away.
Garden Shops carry artificial owls. My grandmother used to use a goose wing folded up and tied to a stake. I guess it mimmiced an owl. I know it works for rabbits and such, might work for birds too
12 gauge...bird shot.
THAT solves the problem. Easy. Everyone has a 12 ga at home. Takes no energy and you get practice for spring turkey!
Could be an osprey (fish hawk) I see them on the Ohio, Licking and Ky Rivers. It's pretty cool to watch them take a fish. "Bam" straight in the water from 100 ft up. Google for a picture. Defintely do not shoot, as all birds of prey are protected by federal law.
I use bird netting that you can get at Walmart for fruit trees. Animals and birds don't like to get tangled in it so they leave it alone.
Are you sure it is a hawk? Could be a neighbor, you know those coy make fine susha. lol lol lol
