    Re: Geist Reservoir

Thanks for clearing things up a bit, anyway good bass lake close to home. I also enjoy fishing the Tues night club, good payout and fun. Other than the statewide lake map book, is their any other map of geist that anyone knows about? I know with all the dredging thats occurred, not sure how accurate it will be, but would be nice to have a map. I may be the only one, but geist is one of the hardest lakes for me to pattern, any suggestions out their. I know in the spring allot of guys head up the creek, but for some reason i don't like to mess with that on geist.....thanks later fellas

As far as a current map of Geist Reservior, there are none that I know of that detail the current dredged areas.

As for building a pattern, the weeds and boat lifts/dock are the best bet. I have brought in 18 plus pounds on Tuesday Night, go back the next Saturday for a Club Tournament and not catch a keeper. Geist can sure humble a guy in a hurry.

Something that I left out of my 1st post, back in the mid to late 60's, IWC planned on the expansion of Geist Reservoir, IWC purchased or took, which ever best worked, all of the land around the lake that developed in what is known as the Geist area. After they got the land needed for the expansion, Eagle Creek was designed and built. That met the water needs for the current time.

So the Geist expansion was not needed, what to do with all this land, the major stock holders of IWC formed the Shorewood Corp, which developed the Geist Area, lake front lots went for a cool million, not bad for waste land. From there other companies were formed like Marina Unlimited.

Living in this area all my life, I was able to see this area grow into what it is today, just prior to the area being developed, shootings, stabbing, stolen car burn't, were a norm. It was not a safe place to go night fishing in the summer.

Hope you all enjoyed the stroll done memory lane.

I live about 1 hr south east of indy on a small 250 acre lake, this is agated community, the only boats aloud on the lake is a home owner, must have a boat sticker or the will escort you out and file tresspassing charges against you. So yes it would be worth 27.00 dollars to me to beable go to geise and fish.

So is it 10/boat or per person? How many boats are you expecting?

I am old enough to remember when you could walk all the way around Geist and Morse and Never be trespassing on a homeowners property. The way I heard it was when the Water Co. aquired the property for both G&M, part of the agreement was that houses were never to be built on either reservoir. BUT, some big wigs at the Water Co. formed a Corporation (if memory serves me I think it was Shorwood Corp.) and started buying property from the WC (water company) around the lakes. Because the land no longer was owned by the W C, they were able to develope it and all became very rich.
Urban legend or fact? You research it.

And the houses on the lake are arguably the nicest homes in Indianapolis, and they want their own water for pleasure..........But if you live near it's close, a good fishery, and put it this way on tuesday nights they have a tourney from 5-9 and they average 50 plus boats a week! Good payout for only a 1500 achre impoundment.

    Dang that’s so unfortunate!
