Has anyone else bought the newer version of Garmin Chartplotters? I am referring to the GPSMAP 420, 430, 440, & 450 series. I have the GPSMAP 430, which comes pre-load with 5300 topo maps for all of the United States. Three hundred of the maps are supposed to be einhanced detail. You can get more that are 3-D and other additions. You can also transfer MAPSOURCE Lake Map to a SD Card and use them in instead of the pre-loaded maps.
I have only been on the water with it once at Green River Lake and not a long time there. It didn't seem to me that the pre-loaded map had a lot of topo detail, mostly the shoreline, the channel ans a few depth lines. I tried the SD card loaded from MAPSOURCE and it appeared to give more detail.
Honestly, I haven;t used it enough to be sure of anything, but my question is has anyone else had any good or bad experience with these Chartplotters? On the plus side, I noticed that the list of pre-loaded maps incluses Ceder Creek and I am anxious to try that.
Comments please,
Grumpy
