    Trim Tab on Motor

I've been looking for a Hydro Stabilizer for my motor and recently purchased one. While preparing to put this on, I noticed my trim tab on the motor evidently broke off. I purchased a Stingray which came with a couple tabs. Do I need to replace the one on the motor or will the stabilizer tabs replace the functionality?

    Thanks!

I believe you better check with your motor people, This happened to me several years ago, I believe it is also used for corrosion control also, or if I spell this right electolises. I do know if you put one on be prepared to get wet they are hard to adjust, you must get in the water with a allen wrench and keep adjusting untill it steers straight.

Yes. REPLACE IT and move it to factory specifications (1oclock, 2oclock, etc). Like bob46 said, it is a sacrificial anode, and is used for cutting down corrosion from electrolysis. It also helps to offset prop torque, so that it won't be hard to steer certain directions. If it was there to begin with, in my opinion, it serves a purpose.

The info for the position of the trim tab should be in your original engine owner's manual if you still have it. If not, call a local dealership or shop for the position.

What size motor is it . The bigger motors don't even have one . The position is determined by the amount of torque if any. If you have power steering than you have no torque. On the smaller engines it sends water back up into the ports as you are running so yes it can be important.

    I've owned a 90, a 115 and a 150 and all had trim tabs.
