Fished WB on Easter weekend ... caught 12/day ... 12-15" fish, mixture of male & female White Crappie (no Black Crappie caught, or seen). All caught in 15-22ft of water, 12-15ft deep, on main lake ledges & downed timber. Water temps ran from 54-57deg. All the females were full of eggs, but eggs were still light to moderate yellow ... no gold, no big blood veins. No fish found under docks ... all came off wood or deep ledges. Fished Whites Creek area & Fooshee Peninsula. Photo's at Arrowhead Resort.
We found no shallow males, even on the 10ft deep spawning wood that we usually find them on. Some Buckeyes were catching some 10-11" males, on minnows, in the downed timber, at about 5ft deep (in 10-15 fow).
They've still got a couple of weeks to go, but could start any day now. We have been known to catch them in 2-5 fow, in early-mid May, in the shallow coves between Thiefneck Island & Caney Creek ... with air temps in the 90's. But, it's been a few years since we've fished up that way (or that late in the year).
