You can change it up a little but the rule of thumb is just fast enough to pull the boards out to the side. I pull mine at under 10 percent on my maxxum 74 and my boat is a 20ft center console. If you turn every now and then it lifts and drops baits and sometimes that helps.

Start out slow like tglass suggested...just enough to pull the boards out. I generally run from 1.5-2.5 mph with 2 mph being most common. Let the fish tell you what they want. Some days I barely keep the boat moving and others I move right along.

I suppose fisher Joe is refering to pulling artificials that fast. When I'm pulling doll flys or other artificial baits, I usually pull at 2.5 - 3.0 MPH. When using live bait, I pull at 0.7 - 0.9 MPH.
