    Spotted bass at CC

Has anyone ever caught a spot or smallmouth out of CC? My brother and I were their yesterday and he caught what looked like to be a spot but had the bars like a smallmouth.

Its jaw did not go past his eye. Dumb me never thought to check for the tooth patch.

It was a dirty greenish color. If it was a spot it is the biggest I have ever seen. It weighed 5lbs right on the nose.

You are describing what some call a Meanmouth. It's a hybrid/ Spot and Smallmouth mix. The state fishery department actually toyed for awhile with claiming these as a Ky species but later said there just wasn't enough of them around to classify them. I think it's Missouri that claims these fish and they are fairly common on Table Rock lake.

I have heard that there were smallmouth in the river before they created Cedar Creek. I have never caught a smallmouth, or a spot, for that matter in CC. There may be some remnants from when the river was dammed and CC was created.

Great somebody else taking smallmouth from Cumberland. This is not a good practice, in fact it's stupid.

i thought it was against the law to carry a fish to a lake and turn them loose in another lake?

You are correct it is...... Not to mention he would be better off just eating them, they probably won't make it in Cedar anyway.
