Muzzle of Gray
Many mornings
Have passed through the years
Spring, summer and autumn
His is always there
Laying under the sugar maple tree
Leaving his spot only to winter
Returning early spring
To brisk, frosty mornings
Which he seems to love
His is always there
A ball of thick, black fur
An aging muzzle
Now mostly gray
This morning he was hard to see
He was under a beautiful autumn blanket
Gently laid upon him by the sugar maple tree

I run through my neighborhood early each morning, and the old dog was always under the maple tree and one morning he never returned. You miss one like that.
Reminded me of my 13/14 year old black lab named Cooper, he has bone cancer but he's still livin', he can't see real well, can't hear real well either, he mostly relies on his nose now days to get from point A to point B. But by golly I'll tell ya'll what, he's as faithful to me today as he ever was...ALWAYS hangs by me no matter what. In his younger days he jumped the fence a few times...I saw him pick a couple of fights in the vets office, I even had to pick up his sorry tail out of jail one time...but all told he's been a good ol' dog for sure.
100% agree Labs being good dogs it's hard to beat their loyalty and great demeanor.Reminded me of my 13/14 year old black lab named Cooper, he has bone cancer but he's still livin', he can't see real well, can't hear real well either, he mostly relies on his nose now days to get from point A to point B.
