I've pulled down and back several times never a problem.
Trailer license not required for Kentucky as long as you stay in Kentucky, but if you plan on trailering out of state I think a license is required. I might be wrong but this is how I remember it being explained to me.
Kentucky may not issue or require a license plate, but you can get one. I had one on my boat trailer for a few years while pulling it out of state for tourneys. I didn't want to take a chance.
I had a problem several year's ago in Ohio for no plate on my boat trailer. The cop was very hard to convince that it was not needed. Travel trailers/ campers etc. do need a plate. I got a copy of the state statue krs*** and keep it in my truck.
As a former law enforcement officer, I can state with confidence that you do not need to have a trailer plate. A good analogy would be that some states require both a front and rear license plate on your vehicle, but not Kentucky. If stopped, the officer will confirm that you are a KY resident by looking at your driver's license and vehicle registration.
By the way, if KY ever pushes for a law for a front license plate, fight it. The use of traffic cameras results in a higher incidence of citations in states where two plates are displayed.

It's rediculous that someone on here asks a question and people rush to throw their opinion out there which doesn't even help answer this quys question. I think Hershey is the only one to answer this. You do not need to license your trailer in the state of KY. Be prepared though as we drive to FL every year that even though they know KY doesn't require us it gives them probable cause to pull you over and check for other violations taking place. example open container, drugs etc. Carrying a copy of the statute is a great idea that someone said (sorry I don't remember who). If going to Canada or Mexico to go fishing you DO have to have license plate on your trailer.
The state of Ky does not require it but if you pull to a state that does you need one. I think it is ALabama that does not require drivers to have insurance but if you come to KY and don't have it you get a ticket.
I have a license plate for my trailer for this very reason.
I had a plate for mine a few yrs ago but not any more.
