I like a 6.6 medium action Basspro Extreme and also a 5.6 medium action Eagle claw. I have found the reel and line make a big difference in distance as well.

Believe it or not I like Ugly Stick lite for crank baits, It has a good sensative tip for the money, they are only 40.00, I use johnny morris elite for worming and jigging.

Re: Favorite long casting cranking rod

If youre wanting a rod to launch a deep running crankbait you should go with a longer rod, i prefer a 7'6" Medium Airrus Co-Matrix. If youre needing more of a football jig rod or a rigging/big worm rod I would still go with the 7'6" but I would step up to a Medium Heavy action Co-Matrix. I just prefer the 7'6" because I do tend to fish quite a bit of deeper offshore structure and it just takes up more slack and propels your lure farther on the initial cast. I would go with at least a 7 footer if I were looking get as much distance as possble. I have several different brands, and I have found that for casting distance, the lengh makes the most difference.

I agree with Col Forbin, I have 3 G-loomis crankin rods all over 7 foot. My favorite is the 7-6. Unbelievable feel, balance, control and light weight.

Shimano Crucial 7' MH Medium Fast.

Will cover about all your cranking needs -- from small to large cranks.

Limber enough to launch small cranks, but still has enough backbone for large cranks. Very efficient rod.
