    Lightning Bug Pics & Recipe

Here ya go guys, the pics aren't the best. I found out that it is really hard to get my camera focused in on a #20 size fly, lol! I did the best I could. I included a pic of a bigger one in size #14. Here is the recipe....much like a brassie or pheasant tail:

    Recipe:
    Tail: Pheasant
    Primary Body: Gold metallic tinsel
Secondary Body: Brass fine wire (space wrapped leaving metallic tinsel showing through)
    Thorax: Peacock Herl
    Head: Gold tungsten bead

I know it may seem like nothing special, pretty basic fly really, however...it can flat out catch the fish! I've had many times were I was throwing a bh pheasant tail or a bh brassie and wasn't catching much, then switched to this little guy and WHAMO! I think it's the little extra flash from the underlining metallic tinsel. Anyways, lets see your all's favs! Pics below.

    Thanks Rich,
I done a google on the lightning bug. Like any other fly I found a few variations. Like using silver flash, Etc. But the info that was posted was very positive. I intend to tie some up soon. Good looking fly !

There is a Iridescent Midge emerger with a peacock herl thorax that I tie that is similar. That I have had good luck with. I will try to post some pics when I get back.

my son's first tie, a Wolly Bugger:

and proof that these come from my vise. The two madatory tools when I am tying, a beer and a pack of Red Man:

    Tim-
When you are in your photobucket, highlight the "Direct Link" and copy it....then take your cursor over to your reply thread and paste. It should look like a weblink (underlined and a different color font). Good luck, hope to see those pics soon!

Thanks Rock, I let him read the post and he is proud. That was literally the first fly he has ever tied. He is 14, he used to do some fly fishing with me when he was young, got where he could cast decent. Now he is in high school and spends time playing sports, talking to girls etc. He still is interested in fly fishing and bowhunting, just has other plans sometimes. I did the same thing when I was his age and came back to the outdoors. I expect he will do the same.

Mine does the same. They are busy with a young mans life we have to remember. They will always go back to hunting and fishing for the rest of their life.
We are planting seeds my friend! You are a good father !
