It depends on your model. I bought mine last year and I do not have the down imaging. Which is side imaging straight down.

www.humminbird.com On the home page it will ask you if you want to register your product. Click on that and it will ask you when you bought your sonar and the serial number. After you register it you can go to the page you created and it will have a list of updates. I just check in once a month or so and see what's new.

Last question I promiss! I have the 798csi unit. The down image update is available for this unit. So basicly I download this file onto a SD card in my computer and then put the card in my 797 unit and it will load this in my unit when I boot it up, or will I need a cable to connect the unit to my computer? Did you have any trouble with the download?

I just downloaded it on an sd card. I don't know for sure what it will or won't do but I always go ahead and reset the defaults like it says to do. I never had wanted to chance it.

Well I downloaded the software update on my SD card. Powered up my unit and rest to default sttings before I put the card in. Shut the unit down and put the card in. Powered the unit on and had a screen prompt to confirm I wanted to upgrade software. Confirmed to proceed. The update took about 3 min. and when it was completed I powered the unit off and removed the SD card.

Powered the unit back up and ran it in simulator mode. Very nice!! Gives extra screens with a 3D down view. Scrolling thru screens will allow the traditional views as well.

Thanks for the tip bassman! All said and done though, the side imaging is probably going to be the most usefull tool on this unit. The 480 foot view under the boat is the reason I bought this unit. Nice to have more options though.

Try downloading/save to a SD card instead of saving it on you computers hard drive. If ou do not have a card slot on your computer, i have seen a version that looks like a flash drive. The SD card is plased inside the usd flash and you can use it in a usb port to read cards or download to a card.
