Gas Tank Problem

I went to remove the old gas with a syphon from a 40 gallon on board tank. Now my gas gauge doesn't work. What do I need to do to fix the problem? There is still gas in the tank so it's not empty. Thanks

check sending unit in tank make shore it grounded, ground unit wire it will tell you if your gauge work have power on
