    What's your favorite call?

Title say's it all. I prefere just a plain ol' slate pot call. Can't really go wrong there. Has been and will be my go to for years to come.

Gotta be just a plain ol' double reed diaphragm for me.

I love a box call, mostly because it was the first call I got decent with. Despite that, I use a diaphragm call most of the time.

90% of my calling is purring, and I can purr the best with a slate call. i've got most types of calls, but I use the slate simply for the purring. Otherwise, I'm not a big fan of slate calls due to size, movement. Oh well. Until I get more consistent with diaphragm purring, I'll use the slate.

Has anyone used an aluminum pot call. I have read that the higher frequncy they produce makes the sound travel farther? Could this be hipe to make manufactuer's sell there product better?

no, speed of sound in normal air is 343 M/Sec (750 mph). a louder call would be heard at a further distance, but not a higher frequency, most people call too loud (from what I've read).

Can't stand a diaphram, don't like the feel of it in my mouth and although most people think they sound great you can really tell the difference in the woods especially since most people tend to call way too much with them.

I carry two slates and four strikers to vary the sound. I hunt close to a WMA where the birds are running from calls after the second day of the season. The most effective call I've found is none at all. I set up in a clear bottom with a couple of hen decoys and a good book. I may purr or cluck every now and then or if I'm running and gunning the only thing I do is a gobbler cluck or yelp.

Most new turkey calls are like new bass lures, they might catch a turkey every now and then but they are mostly for catching hunters. The two slates I use are the same ones I used when I started 15 years ago.
