I haven't fished much trout in my lifetime, and I was wanting to start getting into them. Any information would be great. Thanks.

Well i fish on the bankside, of a lake.
Black roostertails has always been my goto lures for trout. Morning and evening are best unless you've got a overcast day.
Are you talking about the FINS lakes, where they put the rainbow trout? Those little stockers will take just about anything a trout will normally take, but it depends on the day and the place. Rooster tails are always good. Interesting to see BanjoDale mention black ones; around L'ville I've seen people have the most success on red ones, but of course it varies from place to place and from day to day, and even from day to day at the SAME place! Personally, my favorite lure for them is the small Super-Dupers, silver or chartreuse. If you want to just sit and relax rather than cast and retrieve, corn fished on or near the bottom is good. I've seen people knockin' em dead on PowerBait before, too. And of course minnows can be great, just more of a pain to deal with. Best time is from sunup to about 9:00 or 10:00, maybe 11:00 (depending on the sun/clouds, and how warm of a day it is) or late in the afternoon into the evening.
One thing about those "stockers." They may be small, but to me they're perfect eating size, mainly because their flesh is white and flaky, not red and oily like the older, larger trout.
