    Cumberland River Report

Fished below Burkesville on Sunday. The hatchery truck must have made a deposit recently. I found a pod of recent stockers and they went crazy over a small chartreuse and white clouser. The bite was on between 11 and noon. Not much after that. Maybe that's when they're used to getting fed at the hatchery. Had the river to myself all day. Water temperature is rising and the water level is falling. Now is the time to get down there, before the spring rains get here.

Thanks for the report. Out of curiousity, what did the water look like? Thanks.

Water was pale green--slightly silty. Visibility was probably 3-4 feet. But when passing over the dam earlier in the day, I noticed the outflow was the same color, so it's not coming from any of the feeder creeks.

You are exactly right, that is the color of the water coming out of the lake. Makes ya miss that clear CR water.

If this system settles in on us like it did 2 yrs ago where we miss out on rain for months at a time then just wait until July when all we see are gravel bars covered by dead brown crap that used by green crap! The trout jewel of the south may have seen her best days...

A couple friends and I want to try fishing next week around Helms bend during periods of low flow. Can we expect decent water color so we can fly fish. Anyone fly fishing now?

Last I heard visibility was improving, around 4 foot. Good luck down there! Let us know how you do.
