Falls of the Ohio - new ramp add-on

Just saw a set of plans this morning detailing a new ramp at the Falls of the Ohio. Where the ramp is now, just imagine picking it up, and rotating it clockwise 55 degrees. It looks like the existing will remain in place since the new one is being called an auxiliary ramp.

Plans were completed back in October - job is being bid now. I would expect construction to start in a couple of months.

With it being angled more downstream, that should make loading easier, or at least I would think so.

Found out the bid has already been awarded - construction to begin in June.

    I'm happy about it to.

For the existing ramp, my guess is that it was cheaper - they probably had it proposed the other way as well, but it cost a bit more (longer).

You would be amazed at how many projects aren't done the right way, just to save a few dollars or to stay under budget.

Last Thursday me and Kevin went and put in at Harrison Ave (I only live a few blocks from there in Old Clarksville ) while we were out they opened up gate #1&2 and it was a bad current .Luckily I had someone with me and he took the trailer to New Albany .It would be great to have a ramp down a few hundred yards from the exsisting ramp

A ramp for the entire Louisville/Indiana area and only 6 or 7
parking spaces for cars with trailers-Now that's real thinking!!!!!!!

There really are a lot of dumb people in decision making positions that
have no idea of what is really needed. (more in government)
You would think it would be "common sense"

Very rarely is it a matter of what's needed or not, but rather getting the most for the least amount of money. Putting in a new ramp farther downstream would cost far more than simply adding an additional ramp on property that's already been bought. Same goes for parking - it would take more land acquisition for more parking, meaning more money.

As for the decision makers - projects that have a positive impact on a large number of people/voters will get more favoritism than one that will only appease a few fishermen. With that in mind, I'd say we should be happy that we are even getting a ramp addition.

    LMAO- Cheers!

And think of it this way. Since its all Indiana, they could have improved the ramp at New Albany, which does have a bunch of parking, and still served the same area and citizens. But noooooooooo.....lets put the parking where the ramp stinks, and the ramp where the parking stinks.......DUH! Oh well, I do appreciate the efforts, just wish sometimes things would be looked at more wholistically.
